African Gray Parrots are undoubtedly gray with red tail and white area around the eyes. The length of an African Gray Parrot is 12-14 inches and the weight is about 300-500 gr. The male parrots have broader heads and necks and rounder eyes. The female has a longer, slender neck and elliptical eyes. Usually African Gray males are one inch bigger than females.
African Gray Parrots - Nutrition
African Gray parrots should be given mostly tropical fruit and vegetables that you can find: mangoes, papaya, cantaloupes, fresh peppers, peanuts, raspberries, kiwi, pineapple and star fruit. In addition, standard parrot seed mix can be used.
Predators: People and vultures.
Life Span: up to 70 years.
Pricing: Usually about $1000.
Incubation Period: 29 days.
Fledging Period: 80 days.
Clutch Size: 3-4 eggs.
African Gray Parrots - Temperament
African Gray parrots are very shy and don't trust people. Natives hunt them by beating the trees and catching the birds with nets. So it's natural for Gray parrots to be afraid of people. In general, African Grays are considered to be the most intelligent and quiet parrots. Buying an African Gray parrot takes thought since it can live in your place for many years. Although they are easy to look after, African Gray parrots are clever and curious. African Gray parrots need a lot of mental exercises and attention to remain healthy and happy.
