When looking at a pet for sale, an experienced bird aviary is usually a better choice than a pet store.
There is also actually the third type that can be found only on the islands of Princpe and Bioko. It is called P. e. princeps. It is said that this type is larger and darker than P. erithacus; however, it may also be the same sub-species with a regional adaptation of colors restricted to those locales.

Actually there are two types of African Grey Parrots. There are so-called two different "races" or sub-species: the Congo (P. e. erithacus) and the Timneh (P. e. timneh). The first one is the larger type and this type is more intelligent. When looking at a pet for sale, an experienced bird aviary is usually a better choice than a pet store.
